Taisho Ikat Folk Table Runner, Flora & Fauna

One of our favorite finds. The Taisho Ikat Folk Textiles are one of a kind Early 20th Century Japanese single panel ikats from the 1920s. Ikat is a traditional process seen across many cultures. An ikat cloth is made by dying the fiber prior to weaving the fibers. A resist dying process is used to reveal the natural color of the yarn after it has been dyed with indigo. The dyed fibers are then handwoven on a loom, the images take on a seemingly irregular effect- due to how difficult it is to line up the yarns in the dying process. Traditionally Japanese cloth was dyed with indigo due to its inherent anti-bacterial properties. We think of textile remnants as a conversation, a beautiful work of art that highlights tradition and craft. Due to the nature of these antique textiles, there may be areas with wear, staining, and holes. We feel these imperfections help to tell the history of the piece. Due to the delicate nature, and high quality of the design, we recommend having these panels professionally framed and used as wall art. Each textile is one of a kind. Sold individually.
