Hand carved wooden fish, circa early 20th century.  Beautiful age and patina, with areas of original paint.  For several reasons, carp are important in Japanese culture. In literature and art, they are frequently portrayed as emblems of fortitude, tenacity, and good fortune. However, they are first and foremost regarded as lucky symbols. One of a Kind.
