The Daybreak Churn Dash Quilt is a traditional hand made quilt, made with a variety of cotton fabrics. The design features a playful arrangement of patterned period fabrics in the traditional Churn Dash pattern made popular in early 1900s. The style of quilt reflected what women saw around them, and what was important in their lives, such as the churn, a common household item. Many quilts had characteristics so localized that they could be classified geographically, much like differentiating between a southern American accent versus a northern one. However, as homesteaders traveled West, blending together on the trail and in the new territories, the patterns became intermingled and renamed. The Churn Dash pattern has over twenty different variations and names. Whatever the name, one can be certain it was meaningful to the maker, for even the simplest quilt represented a considerable investment of time and energy. The palette on the front of the quilt is made up of rich earthy colors of rich reds, deep navy, and subtle neutrals. The palette on the back of the quilt is a combination of soft pastel colors ranging from dandelion yellow, lavender, ecru and grey. One of a kind.
