The Lakeside Quilt is a traditional hand made quilt, made with a variety of cotton fabrics. The design features an elegant arrangement of patterned fabrics in the traditional blue and white chevron. The style of chevron quilting and textile work has been around hundreds of years and was popular in Ireland and England, with symbolizing dating back to Ancient Greece. However the resurgence in the US was believed to originate from Women’s Temperance Movement in 1890s. This period in time saw the rise of the Anti-Saloon League, and were early contributors of National Prohibition from 1920 to 1933. The belief is that the quilts were sewn to promote the abolition of alcohol in the US, and were commonly seen with a blue and white color scheme. The theory behind the blue and white color scheme is that the colors symbolize the purity of water. The palette on the front of the quilt is made up of soft earthy shades of blue mixed with natural tones of ecru, white and shades of black and brown. The back of the quilt a periwinkle blue. The quilt is new. One of a kind.
