Cabin Sconce, 16"

Handcrafted in North Carolina from Western Red Cedar sourced from British Columbia, the 16-inch Cabin Sconce is a wooden wall light with design origins dating back to the 1970s. The cedar is intentionally band-sawn rather than sanded smooth, leaving a visibly textured surface with natural tool marks, grain variation, and small imperfections. This rougher finish highlights the honesty of the material and ensures no two fixtures are exactly alike, with the level of texture varying subtly based on the individual woodworker’s process.

Offered in natural timber oil or Shou Sugi Ban, the sconce is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Shou Sugi Ban involves charring the surface of the wood, creating a burned, blackened finish with tonal variation throughout. Areas where the wood meets or connects may remain uncharred, revealing natural cedar beneath and emphasizing the handmade nature of the piece.

In natural finishes, the cedar will patina gradually over time, responding to light, weather, and environmental conditions in nuanced ways.

Top-mounted, the 16-inch Cabin Sconce can be fitted with a cap for DarkSky certification and wet-location use. Without a cap—its most typical configuration—it is rated for damp locations.
