Ravine Flushmount

Handcrafted in North Carolina, the Ravine Flushmount is a wooden ceiling fixture named for Brooklyn’s last remaining forest in Prospect Park. The wood is intentionally band-sawn rather than sanded smooth, leaving a visibly textured surface with natural tool marks, grain variation, and small imperfections. This rougher finish highlights the honesty of the material and ensures no two fixtures are exactly alike, with the level of texture varying subtly based on the individual woodworker’s process.

Offered in three material and finish combinations—Western Red Cedar with natural timber oil, Douglas Fir with natural timber oil, or Douglas Fir with Shou Sugi Ban—this flush mount is designed for indoor use. Shou Sugi Ban involves charring the surface of the wood, creating a burned, blackened finish with tonal variation throughout, with areas of natural wood revealed at connections.

In natural finishes, both cedar and fir begin in warm tones and evolve gradually over time. Douglas Fir tends to deepen and mellow indoors, while Shou Sugi Ban offers a darker, more consistent appearance that softens with age.

The fixture can be used as both a flush-mount and a sconce. The design features a candelabra-base socket paired with a warm white Tala LED bulb, casting gentle ambient downlighting that enhances the texture and warmth of the wood. Designed for exterior use, this fixture casts a soft ambient glow and works best as a supporting light source.
