Fragment of Japanese wa-sarasa (calico) textile, featuring arabesque floral and grass motifs alongside medallion patterns with paisley forms resembling tree leaves. Created using traditional dyeing techniques on a plain-weave cotton base, with layered patterns producing depth and subtle variation.

The fabric has developed a soft, supple texture through years of use. Stitch marks along the edges indicate prior functional application. Estimated to date from the 1950s, reflecting the continued production of Japanese sarasa inspired by earlier Edo-period methods. One of a kind.
