This Japanese Shinto bell is hand-carved from wood and contains a small metal bell that produces a clear tone when struck. Traditionally hung outside shrines, these bells typically served as talismans to warn of bears and protect visitors in forested areas. A red tassel and wooden tag are attached, inscribed with Japanese characters translating to “To Protect Against Bears, Safety Amulet Bell.” One of a kind.
