This large vintage koinobori (carp streamer) dates to the 1960s, from Japan’s Shōwa Era. Hand-painted in detail on cotton, the streamer features a dark color palette of black, slate, and burnt orange.
Koinobori are traditionally flown on Children’s Day (May 5) to symbolize strength and perseverance, with colors representing members of the household. In this case, it's black for the father. Originally designed for outdoor use as a kite or flag, this piece is recommended for indoor display only. One of a kind.
