Vintage original woodcut print, Autumn Color, signed by artist Norman Kent (1903-1972). This piece depicts a cabin house tucked in the nature of autumn trees. Woodcuts are a printmaking technique that involves carving an image into a wooden block and printed onto paper. The oldest form of printmaking, woodcuts originated in Asia around the 5th century. Encased in a gold painted wood frame.
Kent began his career as a Buffalo-based illustrator before he served as the editor of American Artist magazine for over 25 years. His work has been collected by many museums and libraries, and a nearly complete collection of his woodcuts and linocuts is held by the Special Collections Department of the Lauinger Library at Georgetown University.
