The Arbor Quilt is a traditional hand made quilt, made with a variety of cotton, wool and suiting fabrics. The design features an elegant arrangement of patterned period fabrics in the traditional Hexagon pattern made popular in 1930s. The style of quilting dates back to the 1770s in England and became popular again in the 1830s. In 1835 Godey's women's magazine published a pattern for this block called the Hexagon pattern. It had complete instructions for the paper-piecing construction technique. The palette on the front of the quilt is made up of dark earthy colors of midnight, dark, heather gray and back. The back of the quilt features a ticking strip in cream and salmon. The quilt is hand finished with hunter green pull-ties randomly placed across the entire quilt. The quilt is estimated to be from the 1890s. One of a kind.
