Edo Period Boro Cloth, Indigo & Benibana
Considerations:
✓ Handcrafted
✓ One of a kind
✓ Vintage
The Edo Period Boro, Indigo & Benibana is one of the oldest and rarest antique pieces we’ve collected so far. The cloth is estimated to be from the late 1860s (End-of the Edo period). The cloth is made from heavyweight hemp with a waresist indigo over dye. The undyed pattern reveals a highly detailed and intricate geometric pattern in repeat across the entire pieces. Areas of the undyed pattern are then dyed with a soft red color, due to the age of the piece this has likely been dyed with rare benibana dye or the red portion of a safflower. The cloth is in incredible condition and shows even wear throughout. The textile can be used as framed art or a table cloth. One of kind.
