Niwa Sakiori Boro Rug
Considerations:
✓ Handcrafted
✓ One of a kind
The Niwa Sakiori Boro Rug is one of the best examples of a sakiori textiles we've come across. The piece is in near perfect condition, and features a warm palette reminiscent of Autumn in Japan. Sakiori is a traditional form of Japanese weaving that recycles vintage textiles into a beautifully variegated functional cloth that is used for clothing, obis, rugs and blankets. This piece features a boro backing- Boro Cloth is a traditional Japanese craft created by up-cycling fabrics over generations. The cloth is created by patching and mending layers of handwoven antique and vintage textile remnants. Layers are dyed with indigo due to their inherent anti-bacterial properties. We think of boro cloth as a conversation, a beautiful work of art created with time. We recommend using this piece as a rug, or as a bed topper draped at the end of a bed. Produced in the late 1960s. One of a kind.
