Hand-Dyed Indigo Carp Tapestry
Considerations:
✓ Handcrafted
This handcrafted Japanese indigo tapestry features a traditional carp motif, a symbol of perseverance and good fortune, stencil-dyed using fermented Tadeai indigo (Sukumo) from Tokushima, Japan. Dyed exclusively with natural fermented indigo and wood ash lye (without synthetic dyes) it achieves the deep, luminous hue historically known as “Japan Blue.”
Woven from 100% ramie (Asakibira), a traditional Japanese hemp plain weave with a rich textile history, each tapestry carries the unique character of handmade craftsmanship. Created from start to finish by a single artisan, it features a rod pocket at the top for easy hanging (rod not included). While each tapestry is sold individually, a pair creates a striking display. One of a kind.
Origin: Japan
Manufacturing: Handwoven
Material: Ramie
Color: Navy, Ivory
Condition: Good. Wear and inconsistencies are unique to the original item.
Dimensions: 14.5" W x 43” H
Note: Sizes between tapestries may vary due to the natural textile by 1/4''
Care: Hand wash gently with mild detergent. Dry indoors in a shaded well ventilated area. Due to the nature of natural indigo dyeing, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight may cause fading or color changes over time. To help maintain shape, hang the tapestry with a small weight attached to the bottom while drying. Ironing is generally not effective for removing wrinkles.
