Indigo Shimenawa Tapestry, Small
Considerations:
✓ Handcrafted
This handcrafted Japanese indigo tapestry features a Shimenawa sacred rope motif, a traditional symbol of abundance and connection. Stencil-dyed by a single artisan using fermented Tadeai indigo (Sukumo) from Tokushima, Japan, it is colored exclusively with natural fermented indigo and wood ash lye (no synthetic dyes) creating the deep, luminous hue historically known as “Japan Blue.”
Woven from 100% ramie (Asakibira), a traditional Japanese plain weave with roots in ancient textile history, each tapestry carries its own unique natural character. The edges are left raw and unfinished, and the textile is designed without a hanging loop, allowing for flexible display. One of a kind.

To help maintain shape, hang the tapestry with a small weight attached to the bottom while drying. Ironing is generally not effective for removing wrinkles.
