In Conversation With
Ben Noam
By Slow Roads
Artist Ben Wolf Noam works in many styles, mediums, and places. In the summer he works mainly on ceramics, in a stone shack on a small Mediterranean island. During the year he splits his time between New York and Los Angeles. A warehouse in the heart of industrial LA is where the "dirty work" gets done and, at night, the parking lot turns into a drive-in movie theatre. In New York, he lives and works in a brownstone with original trompe-l'œil frescos on the walls.
____
How are you inspired by nature?
Nature is my muse--I paint psychedelic landscapes,
sculpt mushrooms and cast trees. I've never had a
bad day in the great outdoors.
Where in the world excites you most?
These days, I get most excited in my studio listening to jazz. Sometimes a good party.
How are you inspired by the past?
All my work is connected to art history. I spend a lot of time in museums. I am a huge fan of anything ancient, especially Greek.
Where can people find your work?
You can find my work in galleries, on social media or come by my studio for a coffee.
