What does one-of-a-kind mean?

Every piece in this collection is unique. Whether it’s an antique, a vintage find, or a handmade object, no two are exactly alike.

Are one-of-a-kind pieces gone once they are purchased from the site?

Generally, yes. Many are truly singular finds - once they’re gone, they’re gone. Every so often, we’re lucky enough to uncover a larger group of related pieces, but part of the thrill is knowing that what you find today may not be here tomorrow.

Where does Slow Roads source their antique and vintage collection?

For antique and vintage pieces, you’ll find us traveling in search of incredible items as well as leaning on relationships with collectors and pickers to help us uncover vintage home accessories, folk art, and decorative pieces with a story to tell.

We’re drawn to the nature-inspired forms of European Art Nouveau, the honest materials and craftsmanship of the Arts and Crafts movement - particularly Japanese work and its influence in California - and the simplicity and ingenuity of primitive objects made outside formal traditions. We seek out outsider art alongside the work of trained artists, bronze artists, and stone carvers, and we love discovering beautifully made objects that were originally created for utilitarian purposes but have taken on a new life as decorative pieces - from doorstops and game boards to boot scrapers and musical instruments. Above all, we look for objects with an inherent sense of beauty, character, and purpose - pieces that feel as relevant and compelling today as they did when they were made.

What condition are vintage pieces in?

Signs of age are part of what makes vintage objects special. Minor variations, wear, and patina reflect a piece’s history and are carefully documented in product descriptions whenever relevant.
