En Plein Air Foothills, Oil Painting

This original oil painting by Danish artist Einar Michelsen (b. 1890) depicts a Jutland heathland in late summer. Painted in the 1940s or 1950s, the Scandinavian Impressionist landscape captures sunlit foothills in a natural palette of deep ochre, charcoal, muted mulberry, and warm sand. Signed by the artist in the lower right corner, the painting retains its ornate gilt wood frame. A stamp on the reverse identifies H. Hassing, Glarmester, Clemensborg, Aarhus, Denmark, where the painting was framed. One of a kind.
