This handmade cotton quilt features a Square-in-a-Square pattern, a design widely used in 19th-century American patchwork. The pattern gained popularity with the use of small-print oil calicoes and repurposed clothing scraps. Composed of period fabrics in soft tones of red clay, indigo blue, oak, umber, and ivory, the quilt is backed in ivory and finished with visible hand-stitching. Subtle variations in fabric and color reflect its handmade construction. One of a kind.
