This mid-size vintage koinobori (carp streamer) dates to the 1960s, from Japan’s Shōwa Era. Hand-painted on cotton, the streamer features a bright palette of bright red, soft rose, bright yellow, and indigo.
Koinobori are traditionally displayed on Children’s Day (May 5) to symbolize strength and perseverance, with colors representing household members. In this case, it's red for the mother. Originally designed for outdoor use as a kite or flag, this piece is recommended for indoor display only. One of a kind.
