This vintage Hokobukuro (奉公袋), or “Service Records Bag,” dates to the early Showa period and was used by Japanese military soldiers, particularly during World War II. The bags served as personal repositories for documents and records representing a soldier’s military service, qualifications, and achievements. Constructed from linen, this example bears evidence of repairs made over time, reflecting its continued use and preservation. The strap is handwoven and handcrafted. One of a kind.
