Mino Raincoat, Twenty One

A rare variation of the traditional Japanese mino, this small-scale piece is hand-constructed from braided hemp fiber and colorful strips of repurposed cloth. Rather than serving as a practical rain cape, its layered textiles, geometric pattern, and expressive use of color suggest it was created as a decorative object.

Likely made during the Showa Period, the piece brings together reused textiles and traditional hand-braiding in an unusual, richly textured form. Functional garment, folk textile, and sculptural object come together in a distinctly handmade piece of Japanese craft. One of a kind.
