Sakiori Table Runner, Moss Garden

This antique Japanese cotton textile dates to the 1940s and was handwoven using the traditional zanshi-ori technique, a method of weaving with leftover yarns. Remnant threads in varying colors and weights are woven throughout both the warp and weft, creating an irregular plaid-like pattern in shades of indigo, green, purple, pale blue, and natural tones.

Subtle shifts in color, pattern, and yarn thickness reflect the resourceful nature of the weaving process and give the textile its distinctive character. Some areas show wear and imperfections consistent with age and use. One of a kind.
