Stunning and exceptionally large Japanese wa-sarasa textile. This fabric features a vibrant, captivating pattern of floral clusters and graceful birds rendered in a striking palette of orange and rich purple.  The background is a beautiful creamy off-white with a delicate shadow pattern, adding an extra layer of refinement and texture.  Sarasa is the Japanese term for calico or printed chintz. Valued for its vivid colors and complex motifs, Sarasa became a highly cherished luxury item in Japan.  The fabric has developed a soft, supple texture through years of use. The edges are unfinished.  Estimated to date from the 1940s, reflecting the continued production of Japanese sarasa inspired by earlier Edo-period methods.  One of a kind.
